Why Eating Once a Day Is Unhealthy, According to Dietitians

Why Eating Once a Day Is Unhealthy, According to Dietitians We spoke with dietitians to better understand why eating just one meal a day on the OMAD diet can be harmful to your health. The one-meal-a-day (OMAD) diet is exactly what it sounds like, says Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD from Balance One Supplements, adding that it's "a way of eating that requires the dieter to eat only one meal a day with a one-hour eating window and 23 fasting hours." Essentially, individuals who adopt the OMAD diet are taking intermittent fasting to a whole new level, and while this method will likely help you drop a few pounds in the beginning, it's important to know that it may consequently pose a threat to the body in the long run.

Following his video in which he spent 30 days practicing his Muay Thai skills, YouTuber Laurie Shaw is curious to learn more about different martial arts and flex his muscles in a new discipline. In his most recent video, he throws himself into an intensive month of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training to see how accomplished he can become in just 30 days.

"With hard work and the right amount of training, I think you'll definitely notice some improvement," says instructor and former competitor Karl.

Shaw goes up against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu medalist Michelle and blue belt Ryan on Day 1 of the challenge, and then again on Day 30, in order to establish how much progress he has been able to make."I was pretty much thinking, while I was getting rolled around on the mat, to just not let them submit me," says Shaw."And that didn't go too well."

Following those initial matches, in which Shaw submits to both Ryan and Michelle in each round, he commits to training almost every day for the duration of the next month."There's so much to learn, and so many different phrases and terms and concepts that I'd never heard before, but I also had this constant sense that I was in good hands, so I kept going, 5 to 6 sessions a week," he says."Sometimes I would go twice a day, just trying to learn and reiterate the basics and the fundamentals in my head. Turning up, tying my belt, jumping on the mat, and pretty much giving it all I had, over and over and over again."
