My name is Shanee Golder (@itsjustlowcarb), and I 'm 32 years old. I live in Washington D.C., and I 'm a tv/film production hair and makeup artist. By focusing on my diet and eating low-carb and using intermittent fasting, plus strength training, I lost 88 pounds.

I was overweight for my entire life. I would go to the gym occasionally or have a workout streak, but would never see any results. I also had no idea that your diet plays a major part in weight loss. I would make small changes here and there, but I'd never be consistent with the changes.

Overall, I felt like I was too young to be as tired and exhausted as I was after a long day of work.

My job consists of me standing on my feet for long hours, and the extra weight had taken a toll on me. At 29, my weight hit a high of 255 pounds. So I decided to make a change for myself, and I started my journey in July 2019.

One Surprising Side Effect of Intermittent Fasting, New Study Says

One Surprising Side Effect of Intermittent Fasting, New Study Says It's not just weight loss you may experience when you incorporated intermittent fasting into your regular meal plan, a new study says.According to a study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine on June 16, 2021, researchers who participated in intermittent fasting during a control trial actually lost fewer pounds than those who followed a diet that didn't incorporate time-restricted eating. Perhaps even more surprisingly, this was true even though adherents to both diets consumed the same number of total calories.

'Lazy keto' is touted as an easier version of the low-carb diet, but experts don't recommend it

'Lazy keto' is touted as an easier version of the low-carb diet, but experts don't recommend it Lazy keto is a more casual approach to a low-carb diet without tracking. It may be easier to stick to, but your diet quality could suffer as a result. The "lazy keto" diet is defined as keeping carbohydrates below roughly 10% of daily calories, or about 20 grams of net carbs a day.

I started with keto after months of research. I felt like keto would be easy to follow. After a few months of doing keto, I did see results, but I realized it was a bit too strict for me to fit into my work schedule and lifestyle.

So I switched to a low-carb eating plan since it was a little less strict and a lot easier to follow. I like to stick to 20 grams of net carbs a day. I also implemented intermittent fasting five days a week, and I don't eat after 7 p.m. daily.

Here’s what I eat in a day now:

  • Breakfast: One cup of Two Good vanilla yogurt topped with a tablespoon of Sola Granola, strawberries, and blueberries.
  • Lunch: Two ounces of tuna and mayo.
  • Snacks: Half serving of Whisps Cheese Crisps.
  • Dinner: Low-Carb pizza (made with one cauliflower pizza crust, one-quarter cup Vesper Bros Pizza Sauce, six pepperoni slices, one-third cup mozzarella, and one tablespoon of pesto) and a salad (made with three grape tomatoes, one-quarter ounce blue cheese crumbles, and two cups of spring mix, drizzled with Walden Farms Balsamic).

The gym can be extremely overwhelming for a beginner.

When I first started my journey, I did cardio only and it worked great. I dropped weight pretty fast, but after a while I wanted to do more, but I didn’t know where to begin.

This One Ingredient Naturally Whitens Coffee-Stained Teeth, New Study Says

This One Ingredient Naturally Whitens Coffee-Stained Teeth, New Study Says If you're a coffee drinker looking for a natural way to whiten your teeth, products with this on-trend active ingredient may be worth a try.A team of dental researchers at Iran's Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences recently published an intriguing study in the peer-reviewed Dental Research Journal. To start, the research team allowed 30 teeth to sit inside a 98.6-degree coffee solution for five days. They used an electronic wavelength device to measure the color of the teeth, as well as an instrument for measuring the surface of the teeth.

I hired a trainer to help me start my journey into strength training. Since then, I workout on my own three to four times a week, mostly strength training with mild cardio. I absolutely love strength training now.

What Is the Nordic Diet and Should You Try It?

What Is the Nordic Diet and Should You Try It? Ranked alongside the Mediterranean diet as one of the "best" diets to follow, the Nordic diet is becoming an increasingly popular eating style that can benefit your body and the planet. What Is the Nordic Diet? The Nordic diet focuses on seasonal, local, organic, and sustainably-sourced whole foods that are traditionally eaten in the Nordic region, says Valerie Agyeman, R.D., founder of Flourish Heights. This includes five countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, and Sweden.

These three changes made my weight loss journey a success:

  1. I started intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting fast-tracked my weight loss journey. It gave me structure. I fast five days a week.
  2. I became mindful about food choices. I 'm way more mindful of the food I put into my body. I make better food choices daily and am more aware of hidden ingredients like sugar in foods.
  3. I made exercise a lifestyle. I absolutely love working out now. Once you look at your journey as a lifestyle rather than a chore, it becomes more effective and enjoyable.

Overall, I lost 88 pounds over a year and a half.

My weight loss journey was one of the best decisions I made. I feel more energetic, motivated, and I have more self confidence. While this journey wasn’t easy and surely wasn't perfect (yes, I still enjoy my favorite snacks from time to time), it was 100 percent worth it.
