Thanks to their longevity and sturdy nature, wooden bed frames are an especially solid option if you’re shopping for a new foundation. Opposed to their upholstered and metal counterparts, wooden bed frames are an ideal pick for a more neutral, earthy, and understated design aesthetic. And with options readily available in a range of designs, from midcentury modern to more contemporary styles, they’re an obvious choice to outfit a bedroom if your furniture tastes are constantly evolving.

Luckily, Clever’s editors and writers have tested lots of bed frames in the past few years, many backed by generous brand warranties and return policies. Here, we’ve pulled together a list of all the best wooden bed frames we’ve tried, taking into account style, wood type, set up, and functionality. So whether you’re looking for something that takes less than 20 minutes of setup time or a design that can arrive in two days flat, we’ve got just the frame you’ve been looking for (knock on wood).

The Style of This Champion Collaboration With Cobra Kai Will Never Die

The Style of This Champion Collaboration With Cobra Kai Will Never Die Over here at Men’s Journal, we love Champion. For some solid workout gear that won’t let us down and feels comfortable the whole time, you can’t go wrong. So it is very exciting for us to find out that Champion has gone ahead and collaborated on some new gear with one of our favorite shoes. That show? Cobra Kai. It’s hard to make an argument that there are many miracles these days, but the existence of Cobra Kai is one of them. A TV show focusing on the adult lives of the hero and villain from The Karate Kid just doesn’t sound good on paper. And yet, the show is one of the best things on TV by a country mile. It is truly miraculous. So much so that the show has captured the hearts and minds of a lot of people out there. People that want to show off their love for the show. And they can do that now with the new line of clothing that captures the spirit of the show in some super comfortable attire. Attire we’ve had the good fortune of trying out ourselves. To show you guys how good the lineup from Champion is, we laid out the items we got to try for y’all below. There’s plenty more where these come from. So if you want to pick up some new gear from Champion that lets you show off how much you love Cobra Kai, then this new line is for you.

The Bed by Thuma

a bed in a room: Material: Handcrafted, repurposed wood frame; 100% polyester pebbled linen-weave PillowBoard; recycled plastics slats Bed frame reviewer: Zoë Sessums, associate editor What attracted you to this bed frame? I love any furniture that doesn’t require tools for assembly. I can handle a complex design and assembly, but I appreciate the thoughtfulness that also goes along with some considered joinery. I was excited to see exactly how this solid wood and upholstered bed frame comes together and to see how it holds up. What was the delivery and assembly like? Delivery was easy and straightforward. I could lift each piece myself, which is always a bonus, and it came with a minimal amount of packaging. I began the assembly process myself, but asked for help/company halfway through because I didn’t want to scratch my wood flooring. The instructions were simple and I was able to put the bed together in less than an hour. It was a lot like using giant Lincoln Logs—you just stack and join the pieces in a certain order and voilà! You’ve got yourself a bed frame. Did the bed frame live up to your expectations? I was very pleased with the easy assembly and the heft of the frame. The Japanese craftsman technique was true to the promise of having a quiet, easy-to-put-together setup. My only bits of criticism had to do with the aesthetic quality of the wood (it has a faux-wood look, in my opinion, despite the material, and the brown just wasn’t my favorite) and the challenge of moving the bed frame (if you try to scoot it over yourself, there’s a chance one of the legs will tip over, which happened to me a couple of times). How would you rate the sturdiness of this bed frame on a scale of 1–10? 9. Very sturdy! I jumped on it, I lunged on it, and it held up well. I only knock it a point for the lack of sturdiness when attempting to move it. Would you recommend this bed frame to a friend? I think this is a really great option out there for a simple, modular bed frame that is made from sustainable materials and will hold up over time (a perfect choice for someone who moves regularly). It’s also nice that the PillowBoard is optional, so you can change the look of your bed setup regularly. Editor’s Note: The Bed was also one of the most popular products among Clever readers in 2020. $895, Thuma. Get it now! © Architectural Digest

The 5 Best Tips for Better Apartment Security

The 5 Best Tips for Better Apartment Security Q: My new apartment is awesome on the inside, and I’m excited to be living on my own for the first time. I’m also a l ittle nervous. The area seems nice—but I’m uncertain about how to make sure I’m safe. How can I maximize the security of my new home?A: Congratulations! Moving into your first apartment is a big step; independence is great, plus you don’t have to clean up after other people or wait for someone to get out of the shower when you’re running late for work. Living alone does come with some drawbacks, however, especially for a first-time apartment renter who is nervous about safety.

It’s easy to see why Thuma’s frame was one of the most popular items purchased by Clever readers in both 2020 and 2021 Not only does it easily come together, but it’s an ideal purchase for anyone looking for a sturdy, long-lasting frame that’s also easy to move with. Tulle Skirts Are Trending Again Like It's 2015 Here's how to make the one sitting in your closet look brand new.Chunky-jeweled statement necklaces, espadrille wedges, duster jackets — at some point in the mid-2010s, pieces like these drifted to the the back our closets, entering a new phase of lost and forgotten fashion. But, you know how the cycle works: one minute, TikTok's calling something 'cheugy' (that word was pretty short-lived, wasn't it?), and the next, the exact trend is back in rotation, appearing on all the runways and red carpets.

The Bed Frame by Floyd

a bedroom with a large window: Material: TSCA Title VI certified birch veneer and birch plywood; powder-coated steel supports; nylon ratchet straps Bed frame reviewer: Zoë Sessums, associate editor What attracted you to this bed frame? Instagram piqued my interest with this low-profile bed frame. I was intrigued by the construction, the modular capabilities, and movability. I loved the idea that down the line I could make my queen-sized bed into a king or twin, or add a headboard, or add a storage drawer. And putting together a bed frame without needing tools sounded good to me! What was the delivery and assembly like? This bed frame was delivered to the ground floor of my fourth-floor walk-up. And boy howdy, did I feel like I was going to die trying to get it up all the flights of stairs—and that was with the help of a very strong person! In hindsight, I would take each piece out of its box before attempting to move. Assembly was more challenging than I anticipated (or more challenging than it looked on IG), and it helps to be limber and have room around the frame, but now after assembling the bed a handful of times, I’d say it gets easier. Did the bed frame live up to your expectations? I wanted to hate the Floyd frame because sometimes I feel that way about ultra popular furniture, but I have to say I love this frame more than I thought I would. It’s wonderful! I enjoy the height, the modular element, and the way it looks in my room. Floyd, you win, this bed frame exceeded my expectations. How would you rate the sturdiness of this bed frame on a scale of 1–10? 8. The bed is sturdy, and I am confident about diving into it, but I don’t trust it to stand up to everything. Would you recommend this bed frame to a friend? 100%. This is an ideal bed frame for a streamlined space, for constant moving, for a changing life. I think it’s worth the price. $750, Floyd. Nicola Peltz, 23, fulfilled her every fashion fantasy at the event yesterday, wearing a dreamy cloud of a bespoke Valentino gown with cap sleeves, a full veil of embroidered lace - and a pair of long white opera gloves. It's far from the first time a celebrity has been pictured in the unusual accessory over the last few months, with stars strutting their stuff on red carpets across the world wearing distinctive pairs.

Former Clever editor Nora Taylor found that Tuft & Needle’s “sturdy but also gorgeous” Wood Frame was the perfect foundation to support her deep mattress and many pillows, noting that despite the frame’s darker wood tone, “it doesn’t feel like it totally swallows the space.” In fact, the accommodating design and construction made Nora feel more confident about her lack of carpentry skills. “It looks like no matter how bad of a job I may do putting it together, it could hang in there.” Overall, a quick, seamless delivery process and minimal elbow grease needed for assembly helped to seal Nora’s verdict. “Bed frames feel really personal, but if someone is looking for a good, sturdy, classic frame, this one fits the bill.”

West Elm Midcentury Bed

a large bed in a room: Material: Kiln-dried solid and engineered wood and solid pine slats Bed frame reviewer: Madeleine Luckel, design editor What attracted you to this bed frame? The main reason was that it had a headboard and its narrow dimensions meant it still fit in my New York City bedroom. Midcentury modernism isn’t always my favorite style, but I liked the clean and elegant lines of this piece. I also thought the tone of the wood had a nice warm glow to it. What was the delivery and assembly like? I arranged for assembly from West Elm in addition to delivery, but it was tricky to get it to arrive. It was a few years ago at this point, but the delivery person twice did not show up for the scheduled time slot. The third try everything worked out, but it was a hassle to repeatedly coordinate being home from work in order to accept it. (This was, of course, back in the pre–work from home era!) Did the bed frame live up to your expectations? Yes, but I think my expectations were pretty much just that the bed frame have a headboard and fit in my room. (It has continued to fit in every room I’ve lived in since, FYI!) I will say that I was more into its appearance at the time that I ordered it than I am now. How would you rate the sturdiness of this bed frame on a scale of 1–10? I would probably give it a 6 or a 7. At one point when I moved and it was disassembled and rebuilt by my (very good) movers, it ended up with a constant squeak. The next time I moved I asked them to screw it together extra tightly and the problem was solved, but it was an issue for a couple of years and seemed like something that could happen to other customers. Would you recommend this bed frame to a friend? Yes, if it fit the parameters of what they were looking for. It’s fairly low to the ground, so some things that I would like to store underneath it (such as my standard-size Away suitcase) don’t fit. If the friend lived in New York or another city apartment, I’d be sure to note that. $1199, West Elm. Get it now! © Architectural Digest

According to AD design editor Madeleine Luckel, West Elm’s narrow Midcentury frame is the perfect fit for a smaller, New York City–sized bedroom (in fact, it’s even followed her to every apartment she’s lived in since 2014). Madeleine particularly liked the frame’s “clean and elegant lines,” and that “the tone of the wood had a nice warm glow to it.” Though buyers should be aware the frame’s relatively low-profile design makes storing taller items more difficult. “Some things that I would like to store underneath it (such as my standard-size Away suitcase) don’t fit,” she notes.

West Elm Simple Bed Frame

a bedroom with a bed and desk in a room: Material: Solid and engineered wood with wooden slats for a sturdy foundation. Bed frame reviewer: Katie Henwood, senior SEO manager What attracted you to this bed frame? When I moved into a small apartment in the West Village with my partner last summer, I knew we’d have to get creative with our storage solutions. We wanted a tall frame that could fit boxes and oversized items underneath, but still matched our minimal midcentury style. Enter the tall version of this simple bed frame.  What was the delivery and assembly like? The frame was delivered quickly and in two separate boxes, neither of which were super heavy. Lucky for us, since we had to carry them up five flights of stairs. The assembly was a breeze: The instructions were simple, and everything you need is included except a screwdriver. Oh, and there were no tears, which can’t be said for every piece of furniture I’ve assembled in the past. I count that as a win. Did the bed frame live up to your expectations? Not only does this frame hide everything that won’t fit anywhere else, it looks good and is comfortable at the same time. To avoid clutter collecting under the bed, we ordered three of these under-bed storage bags to hold our extra bedding, coats, and shoes. Even with all that, there’s still room for a snowboard (in a travel case!). We call it the Mary Poppins bag of bed frames—everything just seems to fit. How would you rate the sturdiness of this bed frame on a scale of 1–10? I’d give this frame a 7: In the year we’ve had it, we’ve had to tighten a few screws once or twice, which takes about 30 seconds, but otherwise haven’t had any issues. Would you recommend this bed frame to a friend? Anyone looking to create more space in their small apartment, this is the bed frame for you. It’s not bulky like some bed frames that come with storage built in, and is simple enough to take with you wherever you go in the future. Modloft Modern Haru Bed

$1900.00, Modloft

Wood type: Solid oak, Andorra wool

Modloft’s Haru bed has a “subtle, Japanese Scandi-inspired design aesthetic” and overall high-end look that made it the ideal choice for our commerce writer Audrey Lee. Though she notes it takes a little patience to fully assemble the new bed, once it comes together, you might just spend all day admiring it. “Unlike my last bed frame, I don’t hear any creaks or find myself having to move the frame back into place because it’s shifted places,” she notes. In addition to calling it “the nicest frame [she’s] ever owned,” Audrey went on to say, “If you’re on the hunt for something timeless and willing to spend a little bit more, this frame’s got a light and airy quality that will never go out of style.”
