  Getting Cancer Finally Gave Me the Courage to Grow Out My Gray Hair Turns out having grays and a shaved head is surprisingly empowering. It was a Wednesday. I’d gone to the ER after a week of bloating and abdominal pain. A CT scan had revealed masses on both ovaries, fluid in my abdomen, and cancer cells in lymph nodes, my pelvis, and abdomen — all markers of ovarian cancer. Once I was at the hospital, they kept me there. On Friday, I had a laparoscopic biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. On Saturday morning, bright and early, my gynecologic oncologist came into my room to tell me, my mom, and my dad what my diagnosis and treatment plan were.
