Style Christian Siriano Showed His SS21 Collection from His Backyard
Dua Lipa’s Outfit Is Hand-Painted by Fashion’s Coolest Artist
If you haven’t seen Juliet Johnstone’s painterly pants, you’re missing out.The singer was spotted in Malibu, California this week proving her devotion to Johnstone’s line. Lipa wore her butterfly-themed tank top and workwear pants that were painted with images of flowers, birds, and “Love” in a kind of tattoo-inspired font. She’s wearing the 108th pair of pants that Johnstone has ever made. “108 was the first pair that I decided to experiment with hand-embroidery, so they are particularly special to me,” Johnstone tells Vogue, referring to the embroidered bird on Lipa’s pants. The artist also explained the reasoning behind her obsession with painting butterflies.
Fashion week took a new form this season following COVID-19 safety regulations, and designerused that opportunity to show how innovative and forward-thinking he is.
On September 17, Christian debuted his Collection 37 Runway Show, opting for a venue far different than seasons prior: His own backyard. Selected guests were invited to view the collection while seated six feet apart along the perimeter of Christian's Connecticut home. Strictly following every safety protocol recommended by the CDC, each seat was styled with pieces from Christian's curated collection with Lowe's Home Improvement.
Fleece-Lined Leggings to Stock Up On Before It's Too Late
Come at me, winter.
“This year has been quite a ride and figuring out what I wanted to say this season was a hard one," Christian said in a press email. "For Collection 37, I let my imagination run free and got inspired by everything that was right in front of me while quarantining at home. I took ideas from films I loved as a child, like Troop Beverly Hills, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, Clueless, and even The Wizard of Oz. Fabrics, shapes, and silhouettes from each film are referenced in this collection but in a new modern way for our customer."
"I also started cooking more as I was home and I fell in love with really ripe heirloom red tomatoes picked from the local farmers stand in Connecticut," he added. "They inspired a rich saturation of color and texture used throughout the collection. Daisies in the garden were also on my mind most summer days, and that drew me to some playful silhouettes that I think will bring some cheer to a gloomy few months. The collection feels romantic with touches of evening however some of our favorite pieces this season are made of a light heather gray knit for easy living – while remaining chic and elegant."
Tour Fashion Star Christian Siriano’s Modernist Connecticut Refuge
The multihyphenate designer and his partner crafted this serene, stylish home in a coastal enclave not far from New York CityHe found it in the form of a sleek, airy structure of wood and stucco boxes in the coastal Connecticut town of Westport—a stylistic anomaly in a region known for traditional shingle houses. Designed by architect Bolek Ryzinski in collaboration with RAAD Studio, its location near the beach was part of the draw. (The first such place Siriano bought eight years ago is further inland in Danbury.) “Full vacation mode,” he says of what was intended to be a weekend escape.
As always, Christian designed an array of gorgeous gowns for the collection that left editors in attendance in awe of his sublime skills. Every model who walked the grassy runway wore a matching mask, including, who closed out the show by strutting her spectacular red ballgown into Christian's pools. Talk about #fashion!
Christian also worked with icon and longtime friendto design the shoes for the collection, all made by the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker line. In the end, Christian's Collection 37 Runway Show was a perfect look at how designers can adapt to our new fashion landscape, and proved, once again, why he is truly one of the best in the game. "Even at home, things can inspire us," Christian said, "and I hope this collection shows that fashion remains powerful despite the circumstances."

Let's be honest: not all are created equal. While some of my friends used Wite-Out for their mid-class DIY manicures, I was into the dark, chipped nail polish all the musicians in my favorite emo bands wore (shout out to Pete Wentz), and the black marker did the trick.
