Hannaford Supermarkets just expanded a pizza dough recall due to some products containing razor blades and other metal objects.
The Scarborough, Maine-based grocery store chain has now doubled down on warnings to consumers about all Portland Pie products being potentially tampered with metal objects. On Oct. 11, the supermarket announced that it has since removed all products produced by the local craft pizza maker from its shelves and has halted replenishment indefinitely. "Customers who purchased Portland Pie pizza dough and Portland Pie cheese sold in the deli at any Hannaford store between Aug. 1 and Oct. 11 should not consume the products and may return it to the store for a full refund," states the recall notice posted on Hannaford's website. "Customers are urged to also check storage areas including freezers for product that may have been purchased and frozen during this timeframe."

The FDA has yet to post the company's recall notice on its own site, but the agency has been alerted about the "malicious tampering." Still, the Hannaford located in Sanford, Maine failed to report the incident in a timely fashion (within 24 hours) as required by law. According to the Press Heraldin South Portland, the first report of the pizza dough containing razor blades or razor blade fragments occurred on Aug. 14. More recently, customers who purchased the pizza dough from a Hannaford store in Dover, New Hampshire, and another in Saco, Maine complained about the razor blades, which spearheaded the investigation in all three cities. So far, one man has been charged with inserting the razor blades into the Portland Pizza dough sold at the Saco location. He was the forklift operator for It'll Be Pizza, the Scarborough-based company that the brand sources its fresh dough from. His motive has yet to be reported.
