Pharrell Talks His New “Barefoot” Sneaker, His Vision of Luxury, and Trusting the Universe The legendary musician’s latest Adidas kicks are his most advanced model yet. With that in mind, Pharrell knew immediately where to turn to when it came time to name the shoe. “I wanted to get advice from our native brothers and sisters,” he says, “because I’ve learned so much from the way they see existence and nature.” Five years ago, Pharrell traveled to North Dakota to meet members of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe to shoot the first campaign for his Adidas Hu NMD sneaker, and he’s stayed close with several of them ever since. “I reached out to my brother Dee Jay Two Bears, and asked him how I would say ‘barefoot’ [in Dakota].

Awake NY, the label founded by designer and longtime Supreme vet Angelo Baque, has consistently sharpened its output with each passing season. The shape-shifting streetwear brand has grown more diverse in its collections—but, perhaps surprisingly, only more crystal-clear in its vision. Proof is in Awake NY's expansive, just-dropped fall-winter season, along with its first-ever collaboration with beloved sneaker makers at Vans.

Awake's earliest collections were heavy on logos, screen-printed or embroidered on a tightly edited set of colorful staples like hoodies, T-shirts, caps, and beanies—in other words, the usual streetwear suspects. But Baque and his team would level up each season, stretching collections to include less-expected wares like graphic trench coats, artful flannels, and vibrant bomber jackets. This latest collection, which is available via the brand’s online shop now, is its most robust to date. There are the double-breasted overcoats, the mohair sweaters, and the streetwise suits—plus, there are still plenty of graphic-driven tees and sweats for the taking. It's a snapshot of how today's streetwear-inclined want to dress—which makes sense, coming from a designer who had a heavy hand at ushering the look into the fabric of mainstream fashion.

Spectacular sights we’ve lost in 2021

Spectacular sights we’ve lost in 2021 Many incredible sites have reopened or begun welcoming tourists again this year, yet sadly not all. Whether due to ferocious extreme weather events, from catastrophic floods to deadly forest fires, or renovations deemed too costly, sadly many natural and historic attractions no longer exist. We look back on some of the stunning sights that have been lost in 2021.

The season also marks the arrival of the first Awake NY x Vans sneaker, a highly saturated twist on Vans' classic checkerboard. For the collaboration, which comes via Footlooker's Greenhouse project, the Sk8-Hi gets colored with wax-resistant dye and a digitally printed pattern for some truly eye-burning shades. There are three different colorways to choose from in total. On top of the head-turning sneakers is a lookbook featuring rapper Westside Gunn and the feel-good knowledge that the project will also make donations to two New York-based charities. (The Vans x Awake NY Sk8-Hi collection drops on October 15 via Awake and will trickle out via other retailers in the week to come.)

Streetwear diehards will know Baque's name from his decade-long run at Supreme. Departing from the world's biggest streetwear brand to do your own thing undoubtedly puts countless eyeballs on your next venture—and maybe a bit of a target on your back. In other words, you have to deliver the goods. Thanks to Baque, Awake NY has done just that, emerging with a defined universe from the start. Since then, the brand has only leveled up, the universe has only expanded—and this season, in particular, it's quite a sight to see.
