We're One Step Closer to a New World's Longest Flight Singapore Airlines just tested a new plane that'll take you on an 19-hour trip.As for Singapore, a nearly six-hour test flight is one thing, but spending 19 hours aloft? We're pacing the aisles with cabin fever already. But the carrier says this new A350-900ULR plane will make the nearly day-long flight, the longest in the world by at least two hours, more bearable.

If you don’t mind sitting on a plane for 17 and a half hours (trust us, you'll feel that last half hour), getting from the West Coast to Singapore is set to get a whole lot easier—and ironically, faster, thanks to the elimination of a pesky layover in Seoul. Starting November 2, Singapore Airlines will bring back its non-stop route from Los Angeles International to Singapore Changi, which launched in 2004 but was discontinued a decade later due to rising fuel costs, according to the The Telegraph.

The Singapore flag carrier joins other airlines including Qantas, Air New Zealand and British Airways who have stopped handing out peanuts as snacks to customers. The airline said in a statement it had stopped serving peanuts in all cabin classes in April, although other nuts -- including cashews, macadamias and almonds -- would still be given out in some classes. It did not give a reason for the move.

From December 7, three more flights a week will be added for ten total non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Singapore per week.

The fall kickoff date is notable for many reasons: It’s two weeks after Singapore restarts its longest-flight-in-the-world Newark-Singapore route (clocking in at nearly 19 hours), and just a week after Star Alliance member United ends its LAX-Singapore route. United flew the route for a about a year, but plans to ditch it in favor of adding a second daily San Francisco-Singapore flight.)

Both the flights from Newark and LAX will be on the ultra-long-haul A350-900ULR plane, which, as we've said before, can fly up to 20 hours without refueling and is more energy-efficient than previous models. The plane's technology even fights jet lag as you fly: There's a lighting system that mimics the daylight at your destination, an air circulation system that refreshes air every two minutes and regulates the in-flight temp so you don't need to bogart the airplane blankets, and a cabin that's pressurized at 6,000 feet instead of the typical 8,000.

You'll be riding more comfortably in other ways, too—if only because you really don't have much of a choice. This ultra-long-range aircraft will have just two classes, with 67 business class seats and 94 premium economy seats. Still, even if you told us we'd be flying in economy for nearly 18 hours straight from LAX to SIA, we'd take it. Singapore Airlines is that good.
