The British royal family is well-known for their jetset lifestyle. The entire Windsor crew is constantly on the go on both official royal visits and lavish personal vacation. But, it turns out one royal couple spends way more than the rest on travel. And it’s probably not who you expect.
According to the family’s annual financial report, the entire royal family spent £4.6 million of public funds on travel, which equates to about $5.87 million, for the financial year. As Town&Country explained, British taxpayers foot the bill for travel on any official royal visits through the Sovereign Grant. In the report, taxpayers can find information on the cost of individual trips costing more than £15,000, which equates to $18,000.

That means each person in the U.K. paid about $1.58 toward the grant. In return, the family brings in massive sums of tourism dollars to the country. The royal wedding alone brought in $303 million, so paying for their official travels may be more of an even trade than you think.
