In September, Chip and Joanna Gaines —hosts of the wildly popular HGTV home-improvement show Fixer Upper, and key purveyors of the current vaguely artisanal American aesthetic—seemed to walk away from their burgeoning business empire.
Well, now all those making the Gaines pilgrimage to Waco will have someplace to stay: a converted 53,000-square-foot former office building, which the Gaineses plan to infuse with their particular brand of modern farmhouse style.
"The hotel's design will evoke Joanna’s affinity for timeless, classic details, while also preserving the building's rich history and highlighting its distinctive architectural features," promises an announcement.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, since Chip and Jo won the hearts of Americans with their endearing relationship and approachable, comfortable style, the hotel's goal is to provide a homey feeling—like staying at the Gaineses own farmhouse, but a few miles away.
"Home is a feeling, created by and for the people you love and share your life with; it’s a state of being known and loved just as you are," the couple said in the release. "That is our dream for this hotel — that it would serve as an extension of the way we feel about our own home and all it represents to us, and that every guest who comes to stay would experience that same sense of belonging and community."
The hotel is slated for a 2021 opening—and with the Gainses new network, we have a hunch we just may get to see some behind-the-scenes of this project coming to life.
