We love our classic vacation spots for so many reasons. We feel like we can relax and kick up our feet in a place that’s comfortable and feels like home, even though it’s not our home. But plenty of people like to go on vacation for other reasons, too — mainly, for the feeling of adventure and leaving behind the mundane.

In that case, you may want to stay somewhere a little different than just your standard condo by the beach (not that that doesn’t sound great, too). But there are tons of other houses that may be off the beaten path, a bit unique, or even totally out there. And no, they aren’t just made for social media. You can actually stay in them.

We scoured the internet for some of the coolest houses, from tiny homes, to tree houses, to hay silos in the middle of nowhere, that you can actually rent right now. We’re guessing some of these spots you’ll have to see to believe. They are just that incredible.

Sleep In a Giant Nest at This Glamping Resort Getaway in Big Sur, CA If sleeping on the ground isn’t your thing, but you still want to enjoy the outdoors, you’re in luck. Perched on the Big Sur cliffs in California overlooking the Pacific Ocean, you’ll discover one of the most unique camping areas ever: Treebones Resort. A real eco-friendly resort, Treebones strives to create as light a footprint on the Earth as possible. Employees live on site, which reduces greenhouse emissions since their commute is on foot. AutoCamp Yosemite: This Luxury Airstream Getaway is the Ultimate Summer Escape Treebones recycles heat through an exchanger to supply hot water for radiant-heated floors, the pool and spa, and for hot-water use in the kitchen and restrooms. Any material they don’t use when building on the property, they donate to Habitat for Humanity. Also, tiny homes can feel downright luxurious, too. Especially spots as cozy at this rental in Asheville, North Carolina.

Our phones are constantly buzzing and ringing, and our fingers tremble with the urge to Instagram our morning lattes. And we can’t always make time in our day-to-day lives to escape all the noise. We live in a time when you just have to take it upon yourself to schedule some much-needed relaxation time. And I have just the way to do it. It’s called a Getaway house. The concept of Getaway houses (or cabins, really) is to disconnect and become one with nature.

So goes the neighborhood? Resort wrestles with rental rise LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — Lake Placid is a picture-book village in the Adirondack Mountains offering tourists crisp air, pretty peaks, Winter Olympic sites and, lately, a lot more houses to rent for the weekend. The rising popularity of short-term rentals on services like Airbnb is alarming residents who fear they’re gobbling up so much of the housing market that workers who want to live there are getting frozen out. “What about the families? They’re not here anymore,” said longtime resident Zay Curtis, as he drove through the snowy village to point out rentals. “The neighborhoods are slipping away.
