A sprawling mansion on Australia's east coast is offering a slice of the Hamptons Down Under - you just need to have $10million to spare.

The 'mammoth' six-bedroom in Blairgowrie, a seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula 63 kilometres south of Melbourne CBD, was inspired by the work of an architect who designed a string of houses in the upmarket Long Island community, which has long served as a summer playground for New York's wealthiest elite.

The Hamptons is famous for its unique architecture, characterised by stately columns and exterior walls clad in white weatherboards with opulent finishes like Italian marble through the front door.

The house boasts multiple sunlit living spaces, including a first-floor rumpus room and an open-plan lounge and dining area that adjoins the luxury entertainer's kitchen, where it is clear that no expense has been spared.

Real estate agent James Hallahan, who is overseeing the sale of the house, describes it as a true 'one-off' in the Peninsula and surrounding areas.

'The property brings that style of New York architects to life in a peninsula version,' Mr Hallahan said.

The house will be up for grabs at a private auction on March 3, with a guide price of $9.5 to $9.9million (AUD).
