A guide to cruise line private islands: What they are and what you can expect

A guide to cruise line private islands: What they are and what you can expect What is a private island? Perhaps you’re having visions of relaxing on a secluded beach, cocktail in hand, without another person in sight. That might be true in some cases. But, when you’re on a cruise, private islands are only private in the sense that they’re exclusive to passengers on ships that call there. If …If you’re looking at a Caribbean or Bahamas itinerary and see a listing for an unfamiliar port — such as Great Stirrup Cay, Half Moon Cay or Perfect Day at CocoCay — it could be a cruise-line-owned or -operated private island.

It’s worth noting that merely referring one friend won’t get you 5,000 bonus points. In order to earn the bonus, you’ll first need to hit the threshold of referring five people before those 25,000 Bilt Rewards points are deposited into your account.

You might also consider opening college savings plans at this time. “If you’ve had children, open 529 plans so that educational costs don’t derail your retirement,” said Jody D’Agostini, CFP, an advisor at AXA Equitable.

While the Bilt Mastercard has no annual fee, there’s also no welcome bonus to draw in new applicants. Therefore, this referral program is another avenue for cardholders to rack up thousands of additional points.

After all, there are more than 100 million renters in the United States who can now earn points on this monthly expense with little to no legwork, so it’s likely that you have friends who want to get in on this lucrative program.
