Man wanted in attack on teacher © Hoke County Sheriff's Office Man wanted in attack on teacher A teacher was hospitalized Monday after a man, who was caught on camera, attacked and beat her in her school, deputies say.

Hoke County Schools spokeswoman Jodie Bryant said the unidentified teacher at West Hoke Elementary School is doing well. Bryant did not know if she had been released from the hospital, The Fayetteville Observer reported.

The teacher was seriously injured when the man entered the school after hours on Monday and hit her in the head, face and hands with what authorities believe was a metal object.

Bryant said on Wednesday that an extra deputy remains stationed at the school, and staff is checking to ensure that the doors are locked and are watching for anything out of the ordinary.

Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said 34-year-old Michael Lee Nivens was arrested Thursday and is charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery with a dangerous weapon in the case.

Peterkin says Nivens was arrested in neighboring Robeson County.

Peterkin said Nivens was also wanted for unrelated sexual assault and church thefts.
