Culver said Powell is an "intensely egocentric" person who has psychopathic and sociopathic traits.

Victim impact statements were read from Steppuhn's husband and her three daughters, who were 12, 12 and 7 years old when their mother disappeared. The family members expressed that while they all coped differently with their mother's loss, they found strength through supporting each other.
