“I had the honor to meet Draylen Mason in 2013 after he won the Hispanic Bar essay contest. His essay was on racial profiling and was so insightful and mature for such a young man,” said former Austin City Council Member Mike Martinez in a Facebook post late Monday.

Mason was the dentist’s only grandchild, according to the receptionist, named Hope.

His grandmother, LaVonne Mason, is co-founder of the Austin Area Urban League.

Two people have been killed and another two have been injured by three package bombs left at Austin homes since March 2.

Police believe the attacks are related and are investigating them as possible hate crimes.
