Florida man gets 2 life terms in slaying of pregnant wife
FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A Florida man has been sentenced to two life terms in prison for the fatal shooting of his wife, who was seven weeks pregnant.The Stuart News reports 25-year-old Chekingson Sinclair was sentenced Friday and convicted of charges including first-degree murder in the slaying of Latwassa Argrett and her embryo. The 24-year-old Argrett was shot to death at the couple's Port St. Lucie home in 2014, less than a year into her marriage to Sinclair. Sinclair told police he and Argrett had argued over a former boyfriend texting her.
The new attorneys for a man charged with fatally shooting three people and wounding two others in downtown Lawrence, Kansas say they are optimistic that they will be ready for trial in two months.
The Lawrence Journal-World reported that Shaye Downing and another attorney were appointed to represent Anthony Roberts Jr., 21, after his old attorney was kicked off the case over concerns about her competency. The concerns culminated in a judge declaring a mistrial last month.
Downing said Tuesday that she intends to hire an investigator and ballistics expert. She says she is hopeful their work will be done in time for a Feb. 4 trial.
Cops make arrest in Renton slaying
Renton police arrested a 20-year-old man in Bellevue Friday night in connection with a Nov. 30 shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead. Jason Hobbs, Jr. was killed in the parking lot of a Renton apartment complex in the 900 block of Aberdeen Avenue Northeast. Cops were called to a shooting report about 6:33 p.m. They found Hobbs suffering from gunshot wounds and medics attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene. In the wake of Hobbs' death, Renton police reported at least two men were involved in the shooting.
Roberts is charged with three murder counts and one attempted murder count. Two other suspects face less series charges in the October 2017 shooting.
Suspect arrested in connection with homeless camp shooting.
Officers arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a shooting at a homeless camp Friday morning, the Seattle Police Department said in a statement.
