BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A Battle Creek woman, 39, was arrested late Friday after Battle Creek police said she drove over her husband during a domestic dispute. The man, 40, was critically injured and taken to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

Officers were called to Friends & Co. at 1055 W. Columbia Ave. at 11:53 p.m. Officers said the found the man on the ground suffering from a head injury and the woman standing in the parking lot crying. She told police she and her husband of 21 years had been in the bar but began to argue when he made a comment about another woman.

She told police he punched her in the face while inside and then, when she left, he grabbed her and punched her three more times. A passerby saw the assault and distracted the man when she yelled for him to stop the assault.

The wife then reached her car but the man stood in front of the car yelling, "hit me. You are going to have to hit me."  Witnesses said the woman drove over the man knocking him to the pavement and then put the car in reverse and ran over him a second time.

The woman told officers her husband jumped in front of the car as she moved forward and then she could not see him anymore.

Officers said a breath test showed the woman had a .11 percent blood/alcohol level. She was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated causing injury.

The man remained in critical condition Saturday morning, police said.
