600 Miles in a Coffin-Shaped Bus, Campaigning Against Death Itself

600 Miles in a Coffin-Shaped Bus, Campaigning Against Death Itself Zoltan Istvan ran for president with a modest goal in mind: human immortality. This man’s name was Zoltan Istvan, and I had known him for about a year and a half by the time he began his progress across the country, from the Bay Area, where he lived, to Florida, and thence northward to Washington, where he planned to ascend Capitol Hill and, in coy allusion to Martin Luther’s delivery of his 95 Theses, affix a Transhumanist Bill of Rights to the great ornate bronze door of the Rotunda.

One of the two teenage suspects in the stabbing of a 6th grade classmate tied to the internet ghoul Slender Man has lost a court battle to keep her confession out of her upcoming trial.

Secret witness to testify for the prosecution in Durst murder case

Secret witness to testify for the prosecution in Durst murder case Two men - one of whom is a secret witness yet to be publicly identified - are expected to testify Tuesday morning at a hearing in the murder case of real estate heir Robert Durst. Prosecutors sought to question the witnesses ahead of the trial to preserve their testimony in case either of them dies or is killed. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October, meaning the trial is unlikely to start until at least 2018.

Anissa Weier, now 15, is charged with attempted homicide for the May, 2014 stabbing of her classmate Payton Leutner. Her co-defendant, Morgan Geyser, had a similar motion dismissed one week ago.

Both defendants also filed to have a jury from a different county hear the case, but Judge Michael Bohren has now rejected both of those motions as well.

The girls were trying to impress the internet character "the Slenderman." Leutner recovered from 19 stab wounds, but a doctor testified she nearly died. In questioning by Waukesha Police, Geyser and Weier said they carried out the stabbing to become "proxies" of the fictional internet-based character Slender Man, whom they told police they thought was real.

In varying accounts, the pair said they both feared and admired the ghoul.

Geyser was later diagnosed with schizophrenia, and both girls are pleading not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Weier's trial will begin Sept. 11, making her the first of the pair to be tried.
