The shootings at the STEM School Highlands Ranch on May 7 killed 1 student and injured 8 others. The accused gunmen, 18-year-old Devon Erickson and 16-year-old Alec McKinney, were arrested at the school and investigators say they opened fire inside using handguns. The charges were listed in electronic court records. It wasn't clear if McKinney was being charged as an adult.

The two students arrested in connection with last week's shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch that killed one student and injured eight others are due in court Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. where they're expected to be formally charged.

Both remain in jail where they're being held without bond.

Devon Erickson had an advisement hearing last. The 18-year-old kept his head down during the proceedings and only spoke once — to acknowledge that he would follow the terms of a protection order keeping him away from the victims and the school where the shooting occurred. Otherwise, he responded to questions by nodding up and down.

HIGHLANDS RANCH , Colo. — Multiple students have been injured following reports of shots fired at 1:53 p.m. at STEM School Highlands Ranch at South Ridgeline Boulevard and Plaza Drive, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Ahead of Wednesday's hearing, he was being held on one count of suspicion of first-degree murder after deliberation and 29 counts of attempted first-degree murder after deliberation.

The second suspect is a juvenile. That suspect also appeared in court last week. At Wednesday morning's hearing, the prosecution is expected to decide whether that suspect will be tried as an adult.

The pair is accused of opening fire at two different locations inside STEM School Highlands Ranch just after 1:50 p.m. on May 7.

Kendrick Castillo, 18, was killed in the shooting when fellow students said he lunged at the suspect who had entered their classroom.

“I’m going to have a lot of guilt for a long time by raising a good individual...his actions are heroic, but the consequences are steep," Kendrick's father John Castillo said.

Eight other students were shot and wounded. All of them have been released from the hospital.

Brendan Bialy and Joshua Jones also helped subdue one of the gunmen at the school according to classmates.

"We rushed him," Jones said on Tuesday. "I pulled him to the ground, Brendan got the gun, Kendrick shoved him against the wall first off."
