Greenville man sentenced to 15 years for stealing cigarettes from gas station A 48-year-old Greenville man who stole cigarettes from the same gas station twice in one week pleaded guilty and was sentenced Wednesday.

Jerry Reyes has been sentenced to probation for his role in the 2017 shooting of Yonkers police officer Kayla Maher.

Reyes was with Frank Valencia in Yonkers on Sept. 25, 2017, when Valencia started a gunfight with police officers and shot a bullet that grazed Maher's face. A man who lives near the scene described the shootout as something out of the "wild, wild west."

Reyes, 23, pleaded guilty in January to attempted fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. On May 3, he was sentenced in Westchester County Court to three years of probation.

Reyes lived in New Rochelle at the time but now has an address listed in Greenwich, Connecticut, according to court records.

"Mr. Reyes is very happy that the officer...has made a full recovery and we feel that the outcome was a just outcome," his lawyer, Anthony Mattesi, told The Journal News/lohud today.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. in the Park Hill section of Yonkers. Maher, who is now a detective, and another police officer responded to a call about a suspicious parked car at Marshall Road and Ridge Drive.

Valencia and Reyes were in the car, and as officers approached it, Valencia opened fire, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office has said. A bullet grazed Maher's jaw as police returned fire, they said.

Valencia, a New Rochelle resident, was injured in the shootout and taken to Westchester Medical Center. Reyes, who did not fire a gun during the shootout, was arrested.

Evans was pronounced dead at a hospital. An initial investigation indicated that the Rumpke truck had all safety lights active and working at the time of the accident, officials said.

Maher was treated at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and released the next day, and has since returned to duty.
