Former Greensboro Valedictorian Dies After Being Pulled From Eno River A Greensboro man and UNC student died after being rescued from the water at Eno River State Park last week. Karriem Eric Jenkins, 20, was swimming in the Eno River on May 15 when Durham Police received a distress call. He was taken to the hospital where life-saving measures were taken, police said. Jenkins, who went by Eric, was the Valedictorian at the Middle College at NC A&T in 2016. Jenkins was a UNC student from August 2016 to April 2019, the university confirmed. He was studying biology. The call came in just after 3 p.m. on May 15, according to an incident report. He died Thursday morning. A funeral service for Jenkins will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m.

A young boy died Thursday after drowning in a backyard pool in Malden, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Chief of Police Kevin Molis said.

First responders were called to 68 Princeton Road at 11:53 a.m. for a report of a possible missing child, officials said.

A cousin of the boy said he found the child in a neighbor's pool and pulled him out.

"I feel really bad right now. I’m shaking still. The first thing I thought was just jump the fence. The officer was on the other side … the first thing I could do was jump. That was my first instinct," relative Dieutson Francois said.

A 2-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon after being pulled out of a backyard pool in the area of 24th Street and Southern Avenue, according to Phoenix fire Joe Meier, a spokesman for Phoenix Fire Department. Family members had pulled the boy out of the pool and immediately started CPR.

Two women, who had both just graduated from nursing school, tried to resuscitate the boy.

The family has identified the boy as Jeremiah Joseph, 5.

First responders attempted lifesaving efforts and the boy was taken to Melrose Wakefield Hospital. He was pronounced dead at about 1 p.m.

The incident is under investigation, and no foul play is suspected, officials said.
