Man Who Pleaded Guilty To Throwing Boy Off Mall Of America Balcony To Be Sentenced

Man Who Pleaded Guilty To Throwing Boy Off Mall Of America Balcony To Be Sentenced The man who pleaded guilty to throwing a boy off a Mall of America balcony is slated to be sentenced Monday morning. Last month, 24-year-old Emmanuel Aranda pleaded guilty to attempted premeditated murder, which carries a suggested prison sentence of 19 years behind bars. With time for good behavior, he could serve just 12 of those years. Two weeks ago, Aranda’s mother, Becky, told reporters that her son is mentally ill and does not belong in prison, saying he needs help and had no idea what he was doing.

A Yonkers gang member pleaded guilty to attempted murder, conspiracy and criminal possession of a weapon, the Westchester District Attorney's office said Monday.

Richard Basket, 43, is one of the leaders of the Yonkers "150 Clan" gang and goes by Man and Face. He was arrested last summer with other members of the gang.

County Court Judge Barry Warhit accepted the plea Friday. Basket's sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 26. He is being held in jail until his sentencing.

Yonkers police arrested Basket and seven other gang members last August. The gang was operating in and around the Nodine Hill area.

The violence included: Shootings, assaults, possession of weapons, attempted murder and assault of rival gang members and trying to take control of the area through intimidation, violence and narcotics distribution.

Investigators recovered a loaded pistol that Basket hid in a Yonkers storage facility, the district attorney's office said.
