2-year-old dies after mother runs child over with car in Houston
A 2-year-old was killed late Sunday after the mother ran the child over with a car at a southeast Houston apartment complex, according to police. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. at the The Lodge on El Dorado apartments in the 200 block of El Dorado Blvd. Police said the mother was moving and parking the car when the child ran after the vehicle. The woman didn't know the child was following her when she turned to move into a parking spot, Metro Video reported. The mother struck the child, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police investigate apparent murder of German local politician
German police are investigating the apparent murder of a prominent local politician, known for his pro-migrant views, who was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home. Walter Luebcke, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats, was found lying in a pool of blood on the terrace of his home in the state of Hesse in the early hours of Sunday morning. He had been shot in the head. Police from Hesse's criminal investigation division said it remained unclear why Luebcke had been shot but they did not rule out a possible political motive.
The remains were found Tuesday outside the home in Pocahontas, about 130 miles (210 kilometers) northeast of Little Rock, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said. He declined to identify the victim and said the state medical examiner may confirm the identity of the remains later Wednesday. Prosecutor Henry Boyce said the body was a woman's, but said its condition prevented any immediate positive identification.
Property records show the home belonged to former state Sen. Linda Collins-Smith, 57, and her ex-husband, retired Circuit Judge Philip Smith. The state GOPTuesday night that Collins-Smith had died, but provided no details.
Police investigate after shots fired in home, business in Thomasville
THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Police are investigating after shots were fired into at least one home and a business in Thomasville late Thursday night. Thomasville Police tell FOX8 multiple shots were fired into a business on Trinity Street and a home on Hunter Street. The first shooting, into the business, happened just after 10 p.m. The shooting into the home about a mile away happened about 15 minutes later. Minutes later, police received a call for another shooting on Jewell Street, about a half mile away from the shooting on Hunter Street. Police were trying to determine if the shootings were connected. No one was injured in any of the shootings.
The state crime lab was determining the cause and manner of death, police said. A Randolph County judge granted Boyce's request for an order sealing the documents and statements obtained by police during the investigation.
Collins-Smith, previously very active on social media,to her Twitter account on May 27.
She served one term in the state House and was originally elected as a Democrat in 2010. But she switched parties and became a Republican in 2011, the year before the GOP won control of both chambers of the Legislature.
"I have not changed. I have not left the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left me," she said at a news conference announcing the party switch. Before running for the House, she had served on the state Ethics Commission.
She was elected to the state Senate in 2014 and was one of the most conservative lawmakers in the majority-GOP chamber. She clashed frequently with GOP Gov. Asa Hutchinson over the state's Medicaid expansion and other issues, including a bathroom bill she proposed in 2017.
Collins-Smith, which would have prohibited individuals from using bathrooms in government buildings that do not match their gender at birth, after it failed to advance past a Senate committee.
Collins-Smith was defeated in her bid for re-election in the 2018 Republican primary.
