NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is on a manhunt for one of its own: The search for veteran homicide detective Joe Calabrese, 58, kicked off Thursday after his empty car was found near the Belt Parkway in the Plumb Beach area of Brooklyn.

Calabrese, assigned to the Brooklyn South homicide squad, was last seen around midnight.

Officers and dogs descended upon the neighborhood in search of him. The NYPD's aviation and harbor units were also dispatched.

Calabrese lives about five minutes away from where his car was found.

"He didn't report to work. He had not shown up. Nobody was able to get a hold of him," a source told The New York Post.
