NYPD: Kitchen knife-wielding robber on the loose
The NYPD are searching for a man who brandished a large vegetable knife during a series of robberies.
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is on a manhunt for one of its own: The search for veteran homicide detective Joe Calabrese, 58, kicked off Thursday after his empty car was found near the Belt Parkway in the Plumb Beach area of Brooklyn.
Calabrese, assigned to the Brooklyn South homicide squad, was last seen around midnight.
Officers and dogs descended upon the neighborhood in search of him. The NYPD's aviation and harbor units were also dispatched.
Calabrese lives about five minutes away from where his car was found.
"He didn't report to work. He had not shown up. Nobody was able to get a hold of him," a source told The New York Post.

Man Accused Of Dumping Debris Onto Subway Tracks In Brooklyn.
So far, investigators have connected him to four incidents since May 9. He allegedly dumped a shovel, fire extinguisher and even a bag of concrete mix onto the tracks. Surveillance video from the most recent incident shows the suspect hop over the turnstile with a bag last Sunday at the 9th Street station. Police said he placed Christmas lights onto the tracks of a northbound N train. No injuries have been reported.
