Ruffin man charged with shooting woman in his apartment June 04--RUFFIN, N.C. — A Ruffin man was arrested after allegedly shooting and seriously injuring a woman at about 4:40 a.m. Monday morning, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office. James William Hairston Jr., 45, of Ruffin, was charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A 28-year-old woman told deputies she was shot by an unknown driver on NC 700 and Powell Road. Deputies later learned that the shooting actually happened inside of Hairston’s apartment. Hairston was arrested at about 6:30 p.m.

A Pickens County man is charged in connection with his wife's shooting death, according to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.

Gregory Benson Nix, 63, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants shared by the sheriff's office Tuesday afternoon.

According to a release shared earlier Tuesday, deputies responded to a residence on Allgood Bridge Road after receiving a call that a woman had been shot.

According to arrest warrants, Gregory Nix made the 911 call.

When deputies arrived at the scene just after 8 a.m., they found Tracey Nix, 59, with two gunshot wounds in her torso caused by a small caliber weapon, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Nix was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

During their initial investigation at the home, deputies recovered a .22 caliber handgun.

Investigators said no other individuals were at the residence when deputies arrived.

Gregory Nix is being held at the Pickens County Detention Center with no bond.

Greenville teen charged in shooting that stemmed from social media argument.
Greenville County deputies have arrested a teenager in connection to a shooting that stemmed from a disagreement on social media. Jermaine Alan Gipson Jr., 19, of Pinecreek Court in Greenville, is charged with attempted murder from the shooting at 12 Mayflower Avenue on June 14. Investigators believe Gipson pulled in front of the victim's residence and then shot the victim, striking him at least once. The shooting stemmed from a disagreement on social media that resulted in Gipson finding out where the victim lived, investigators said. The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition.
