Hand gestures lead to gunfire during road rage incident, deputies say.
Hand gestures led to gunfire in McDowell County during a road rage incident, according to Capt. Shanon Smith of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office. Smith said on April 15 Kent Leroy Banks, 58, and Ralph Daniel Thompson, 56, were driving on Interstate 40. Banks was driving a Honda Sedan and Thompson was driving a tractor-trailer, Smith said. Smith said one driver cut another off, and there was some exchange of hand gestures. Both took the Exit 86 off-ramp, and, at the light, Thompson approached Banks’ car, Smith said. After Thompson moved back to his rig, Banks fired shots at the truck, hitting it in the front, according to Smith. Thompson was not injured.
