Sexual assault in the United States armed forces is an ongoing issue which has received extensive media coverage in the past. A 2012 Pentagon survey found that approximately 26,000 women and men were sexually assaulted that year; of those, only 3,374 cases were reported.

Suspecting they were producing their own, the Belgian investigators launched Operation GARGAMEL together with Europol across Europe and beyond . Some suspects have already appeared before court in a number of other countries. In Australia, a suspect was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

CMPD not pursuing charges in 2018 shooting death of deputy by his wife.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is not pursuing criminal charges regarding the 2018 shooting death of Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office Deputy James Hawkins by his wife in their home. In January of 2018, investigators said the shooting appeared to be domestic-related. The sheriff's office identified James' wife as Deputy Sheriff Rataba Hawkins. After a separate and independent review of the case, the Mecklenburg County DA’s Office concluded they couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt the subject didn't act in self-defense, according to CMPD.
