Two employees at a Greenville County memory care facility have been charged with abuse after a woman’s son placed a camera in her room, according to Ryan Flood, with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Diana Rochelle Garrett, 37, and Stephanie Ann Lowden, 50, former staff members at Rolling Green Village Memory Care Assisted Living, are charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult, Flood said.

Lowden turned herself in to authorities Monday morning. Garrett has yet to be arrested.

Flood said an investigation began after deputies were called to Greenville Memorial Hospital on May 22 about injuries to an 89-year-old woman.

Police say two people overdosed in a truck. The truck was in the drive-thru at the Cookout restaurant on Randolph Street in Thomasville. A police report says one gram of heroin was seized. According to police, children were present in the truck and have since been placed with a relative. Jerri Ann Cartrette, 29, and Bradley Everette Lovette, 32, both of Cameo Drive in Thomasville, were charged with two counts of child abuse. Additional warrants are outstanding, police say.

Flood said investigators learned that the victim’s son grew suspicious of maltreatment after noticing injuries pop up on the victim’s body.

Flood said the victim’s son placed a camera in his mother’s room. Camera footage showed Garrett and Lowden using physical force and psychological abuse on the victim after she resisted the their demands to take a shower, according to Flood.

The video was turned over to investigators.

Investigators contacted the administrative staff at Rolling Green to make them aware of the situation and said the staff was cooperative and willing to assist during the investigation.

Investigators said they do believe this was an isolated incident and have not learned of any additional residents experiencing similar treatment.
