That prompted Courtney Irby to go to his apartment to turn in his handgun and assault weapon for police safekeeping, she told authorities, HuffPost reported.

“He wasn’t going to turn them in, so I am doing it,” she told police, The Lakeland Ledger reported.

Lakeland Police officers subsequently arrested her because she committed a burglary.

“Theft is to deprive someone of the right or benefit of property,” Lawrence Shearer, Irby’s attorney, told HuffPost. “She didn’t do either one of those. She was taking them to the police department for safekeeping.”

Irby, 32, has filed several restraining orders against her husband, she told police, according to reports.
