On the one-year anniversary of her son’s death, Jeanelle Cornelius gathered with friends and family to remember him and to call attention to the unsolved shooting.

The shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. at The Ridge Shopping Center in the 4500 block of North Loop 1604. Brandon Cornelius was in a car along with two other men when two suspects parked behind them and approached them.

In an interview about a month after her son’s death, Jeanelle Cornelius said she knew of no reason why anyone would want to kill her son.

She said her son, who formerly served in the National Guard and enjoyed playing video games on the weekend with his friends, held no grudges and had no enemies.
