Athens police to reveal names of subject, officers involved in shooting The Athens-Clarke County Police Department plans to hold a news conference Tuesday morning to provide an update on Monday afternoon's fatal officer-involved shooting on Macon Highway. According to Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Cleveland Spruill, at around 12:30 Monday afternoon officers responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a man he described as blood-covered and acting erratically, while holding a knife. The man was found by officers along Macon Highway just outside the River Club Apartments in the 1000 block of Macon Highway. When officers arrived and encountered the man, they commanded him to drop the knife.

A man is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Madisonville Thursday, police said.

The shooting took place around 10 a.m. near Bramble Park when two officers responded to a report of a man in the park acting erratically with a knife.

The officers encountered the man in the parking lot and shots were fired. Police Chief Elliot Isaac said at least one officer fired a shot.

The man was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and is in surgery.

No officers were injured, police said.

Police said several witnesses on the scene will be interviewed.

Man accused of assaulting 13-year-old boy at playground in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood A Greenfield man is accused of assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a playground. Thomas Dandrea, who turns 46 on Tuesday, is facing misdemeanor counts of simple assault and criminal mischief for the incident that occurred on June 25. According to responding officers, the boy told them he was approached by Dandrea while he sat in an abandoned construction truck behind the playground on Saline Street in Greenfield. The boy told police Dandrea told him he was calling the police and gave the boy a head start to run. According to a criminal complaint for Dandrea, the boy told police he then went to the playground and Dandrea followed him with both exchanging words.

Police said there are no other suspects.

Police said they will continue to investigate and collect evidence at the scene. A follow-up press conference will be held Friday, police said.

Bramble Avenue has been reopened.
