Woman Sleeping In Her Bed Killed After Car Crashes Into South LA Apartment Building A mother sleeping in her bed with her daughter was killed when a car plowed into an apartment building in the South Los Angeles area early Wednesday. A car was reported to have crashed into a building at 8760 S. Main St., near 87th Place, south of Manchester and not far from the 110 Freeway. The car caught fire, which was quickly put out. The apartment was left visibly cracked, and the airbags in the car appear to have deployed. Jayde Marks, a 21-year-old New City resident, is the woman who died when a man accused of driving drunk ran a red light and smashed into her car early Sunday, Clarkstown police said today.

Marks was driving east on Germonds Road around 1 a.m. when Michael Mercado, driving south on Route 304, blew through the red light at the intersection of those two roads and crashed into her car in New City, police said.

Marks was taken to Nyack Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was the only person in her car.

FUNERAL:Arrangements set for Jayde Marks, who was killed by alleged drunk driver

Mercado, a 22-year-old resident of West Haverstraw, was the only person in his car, police said. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for an injury that was not life-threatening.

Mercado is accused of driving drunk. He faces a felony charge of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, and violations for refusing to submit to a breath test and passing a steady red light, police said.

Mercado will be arraigned in court after he is released from the hospital.

Des Moines police searching for driver who fled scene of deadly crash Des Moines police say they are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a fatal crash early Thursday. The hit-and-run happened just before 3 a.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Clark Street. Officers said an SUV and a car collided at the intersection. The driver of the car was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and later died. The driver of the SUV, who has not yet been identified, ran away before emergency crews arrived at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members. The crash forced the intersection to be closed for about two hours Thursday morning.

The crash , which involved a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2017 Porsche Macan, occurred at 3:26 p.m. Sunday in Pearl River, which borders New Jersey. Altin Nezaj, 17, of Pearl River, died after the multi-vehicle crash on Route 304 sent the car he was riding in off an overpass and onto the tracks below

Route 304 was closed for about eight hours on Sunday morning while police investigated.
