Man dies in officer-involved shooting in West Des Moines Authorities say an armed man died Wednesday night following a confrontation with West Des Moines police officers. Officers were called just before 8:30 p.m. to a home in the 1000 block of Woodland Park Drive for a report of a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers were confronted by a man armed with a weapon, police said. Moments later, shots were fired. The man was injured in the shooting. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were hurt in the shooting. Authorities have not released the names of the man or the officers. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the case.

Kansas City, Kansas Police arrested a man after a two-hour standoff and double homicide Wednesday afternoon at a family restaurant.

A man and a woman were found shot to death inside Edwards Original Corner Market and Deli, at 81 North Mill Street. Officers were called to the business around 3 p.m.

The standoff attracted a large number of people who were curious about all the SWAT officers and armed police vehicles from around the Metro.

"I know they were in fear," said Vincent Maldanado, a neighbor. "I was just hoping that nothing bad would be going on. It was kind of scary because they were all yelling."

The suspect reportedly fired shots at police officers, who returned fire.

Police did not immediately release the identities of the victims, but the Kansas City Star reported one victim was Dennis Edwards, the owner of the business. The other victim was believed to be a female.

According to a press release, residents called because bullets were flying through the walls. When officers arrived, they say the apartment where the gunshots were coming from was barricaded, and they weren’t able to get in. Officers provided cover for residents so the rest of the apartment building could be evacuated, according to a press release. Police were able to establish contact with the man inside the apartment and were able to get him to come out on his own after several hours.
