A man in Alabama was sentenced Wednesday to more than 600 years in prison for molesting five girls, all under the age of 16, the maximum possible sentence for his crimes.

Local news affiliate WSFA 12 reported that Raven Smith, 35, was sentenced to 615 years in prison. A judge reportedly structured his sentence to make the possibility of parole unlikely.

News reports that Smith apologized to the families of his five victims in court, but the apology was not enough to sway the judge from imposing the six-century sentence. It wasn't immediately clear if any of the sentences will be served concurrently.

2 Kansas City brothers sentenced for killing man, dumping body in park Two Kansas City brothers have been sentenced for killing a man and then dumping his body near a park. Twenty-eight-year-old Miguel Love was sentenced Monday to life in prison and 26-year-old Antonio Love to 20 years in prison for second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Witnesses told police that the August 2017 killing of Michael Anthony High-Frump was retaliation for a $500 drug deal in which the younger brother was ripped off and beaten. Prosecutors say the brothers loaded his body into a trunk and dumped it in a park after binding, beating and stabbing him in an Independence home. Blood was found in the home.

District Attorney J.T. Jones appeared close to breaking down in tears during the trial when describing the extent of Smith's crimes, which occurred over several years.

"When you deal with cases that involve children, particularly young children, it's going to hit your heart strings every time. You get to know them and you feel the pain they go through," Jones told WSFA 12 after the hearing.

One victim's mother, who was not identified to protect her daughter's identity, told the news station that she was gratified to see that the judge had taken her advice to prevent the possibility of Smith seeing freedom again.

"I can't believe what I said meant that much to a judge to punish this man the way I wanted him to be [punished]," the mother reportedly said.

"I don't want them to be afraid anymore. I want them to know he's in jail and can't ever hurt them or anyone else," she added.

After serving nearly 28 years in prison, a Philadelphia man was freed after authorities publicly acknowledged that police and prosecutors had evidence that pointed to other suspects. Chester Hollman III, 48, was released Monday from a state prison in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Gwendolyn N. Bright had ruled that Hollman was "likely innocent" of the 1991 killing of Tae Jung Ho. "I don't think it's really hit me yet still. Just this morning, I learned that this was happening. I'm still a little in shock, disbelief," Hollman told CNN affiliate KYW.
