CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man accused of killing four people including his 6-year-old son and the boy’s 2-year-old sister will be held in jail on $5 million bond after his first court appearance on Friday.

Armond Johnson Sr., 26, pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated murder.

Johnson asked for a preliminary hearing before the case, set for July 25. Cleveland police Lt. Ali Pillow previously said more charges will be presented to the grand jury.

Police: Two people arrested in connection with Tate Township homicide Detectives from the Clermont County Sheriff's Office have arrested two people in connection with the murder of Jason Hamrick, of Tate Township in Clermont County. Police arrested Angelina Hamrick, 32, for her involvement in the murder of her husband. Hamrick has been charged with one count of aggravated murder, a felony in the first degree. Hamrick was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Clermont County Jail, where she is being held without bond. Johnson also pleaded not guilty to an aggravated robbery charge stemming from an robbery the day after he was released from prison in March and pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge stemming from a 2013 incident in which he is accused of attacking the woman he’s now accused of killing.

Defense attorney Jason Haller asked Judge Emanuella Groves to dismiss the charges in 2013 case on the grounds that the statute of limitations has lapsed. Groves did not make a decision on the request, saying that request would need further review. Groves tacked on an additional $25,000 bond in the robbery case.

Johnson sometime late Monday or early Tuesday fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Takeyra Collins, at her home on East 63rd Street and Fleet Avenue in the city’s Slavic Village neighborhood. Collins was shot in the stomach and back in the bedroom of her home, according to police and court records.

Johnson Sr. shot him the head and chest, police said. Pillow said investigators believe Cousin had nothing to do with the family and was killed “simply for being there.”

Johnson Sr. ran away. A neighbor walking her dog found Cousin’s body about 8 a.m. Tuesday in a vacant field next to his home and called police.

Police investigating his death smelled smoke from Collins’ home, looked through a window and spotted the two dead children. They also found Collins’ body in the home.

Two kids killed in Cleveland’s Slavic Village died of suspected smoke inhalation, mother shot to death, police say CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two young children who were among four people found dead Tuesday in the city’s Slavic Village neighborhood likely died of smoke inhalation, police said. Their mother, 25-year-old Takeyra Collins, was fatally shot in the stomach and back, police said on Wednesday. A neighbor, 35-year-old David Cousin, was shot in the head and back, police said. The names of the two children, a 2-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, have not yet been released. An uncle initially said the children were 3 and 5 years old. Hours after news of the deaths spread, Johnson Sr. showed up at the crime scene to join grieving family members. He was arrested by officers on an warrant for the March 20 armed robbery and formally charged with the slayings on Thursday.

In the robbery case, Johnson is accused of being one of two men who on stole dozens of items at gunpoint from Urban Thrift clothing store on Clark Avenue, court records say. They also forced an employee at gunpoint into a backroom and stole his cash and car.

Johnson has several felony and misdemeanor convictions on his record, including a 2014 domestic violence conviction for punching Collins twice as she held their then-1-year-old son.

Johnson spent five years in prison after being convicted in three separate cases— for robbing a woman at gunpoint on March 10, 2014 and shooting at her and a man while running away, for shooting a man in the back four days later and for breaking into a woman’s home in 2012.

His criminal history also includes two other convictions for selling marijuana and juvenile court convictions for armed robbery, rape and felonious assault, court records say.
