A former salesman for Lexus of Greenville accused of altering customer purchase contracts, allowing him to steal more than $80,000, is now in custody, according to Greenville police.

Police had been searching for Kenneth Galloway Jr., 50, of Simpsonville, for about a month.

He was arrested in Maryland, police said Friday.

Galloway is charged with three counts of breach of trust, 10 counts of forgery $10,000 or more, and 10 counts of Federal Trade Commission fraud of $500 or more, a news release from Greenville police said.

The 23 warrants were issued in connection with 119 different cases between July 2016 and October 2018, the release said.

Police said Galloway kept money for himself that customers gave to him for down payments on auto purchases or leases.

Investigators said Galloway changed customer contracts to show lower down payments than they had made in order to conceal the thefts.

He also forged customer signature on contracts, police said.

Police said in some cases Galloway changed the terms of contracts, so the customers ended up with higher monthly payments.

Investigators said they found that Galloway changed the contracts for 129 transactions. They said he stole $83,401.32.

Lexus of Greenville fired Galloway, police said.

Dealership managers told police they contacted customers who were affected by the thefts.
