SLED said in a statement Friday morning that the teen was "wounded" when deputies "responded to a reported disturbance." Her identity has not been disclosed and her condition Friday was unknown.

She suffered one gunshot wound by deputy gunfire during the confrontation, said Thom Berry, a SLED spokesman.

South Carolina's top law enforcement agency is often called in to investigate shootings involving law enforcement officers. In this case, SLED is conducting  interviews and gathering and analyzing forensic evidence.

The shooting happened on Page Drive near White Horse Road after 9:30 p.m. Thursday, said Lt. Jimmy Bolt, a spokesman for the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded there for a disturbance when the teen reportedly left on foot, Bolt said. Deputies located the teen and she was armed, Bolt said. She was struck once by deputy gunfire, Berry said.

GREENVILLE COUNTY , S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A deputy was involved in a shooting along Page Drive, Thursday just before 10 p.m. Dispatch officials confirmed that the shooting took along Page Drive, located off of White Horse Road, near Saran Drive.

Lt. Ryan Flood, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, would not disclose the names of the deputies involved or say how many deputies were involved. He did say that those involved have been placed on administrative leave.

No deputies were injured, Bolt said. The teen was taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said, but it was not immediately clear which hospital.

There is video footage of what happened, according to SLED. The Greenville News has filed a Freedom of Information request for that footage.

The Sheriff's Office's Office of Professional Standards is also conducting an internal investigation.

Jacob Stokes, 36, is charged with embezzlement of public funds less than $10,000. An arrest warrant said Stokes, acting as an agent of Clemson Extension, took $100 from 14 people for the Pesticide Applicator course. The warrant said Stokes did not transfer the funds to the Clemson Extension, a division of Clemson University. He converted the funds for his own use, the warrant said. SLED investigated the case at the request of the Clemson University Police Department. Stokes was booked into the Williamsburg County Detention Center.

Page Drive is a dead-end street of mostly single-story brick homes off White Horse Road.

"SLED came by and asked questions and by the time I opened up the door I seen police everywhere," said Cindy Williams, who has lived in her home near where the shooting took place for about 20 years. "It's a quiet area. We hear a lot of stuff on White Horse Road because of car wrecks and things like that but as far as the neighborhood goes it's fairly quiet and peaceful."

Williams said it's concerning as a neighbor to hear about an incident that would lead to a deputy-involved shooting so close to home.

Deputy dragged short distance while driver attempted to flee traffic stop, officials say.
An Anderson County deputy was dragged a short distance by a vehicle Tuesday when the driver crashed while fleeing a traffic stop, deputies said. Deputies attempted to conduct the traffic stop around Michelin Boulevard in Anderson. The driver failed to stop and a chase started, deputies said. Deputies were able to deflate two tires and the chase ended. While still attempting to flee with two flattened tires, the driver hit an Anderson County patrol vehicle and one of the deputies was dragged a short distance. Three people were taken into custody, deputies said. The deputy has minimal injuries.
