Police seek 2 men after playground shooting leaves 7 injured in West Philly
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Police say they are working to track down two men after a shooting at a West Philadelphia playground leaves seven people hospitalized. According to police, just before 9 p.m. officers responded to multiple calls for a person with a gun and multiple people shot in different parts of Baker Playground, in Overbrook. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross spoke at a press conference Saturday night following the shooting. "We've got seven victims so far, ranging in age from 18 to 28," Ross said. "Mostly arms and leg wounds, we do have graze wound to the face and another guy has one -- a graze wound to the head.

The latest slaying occurred about 12:25 a.m. Friday, when a 36-year-old man was shot in his head and body on the 4700 block of Hartel Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia’s Holmesburg section, police said.
First homicide of the year in Jeffersonville leaves 1 dead, 2 injured
Police are investigating a shooting in Jeffersonville that left one man dead and two injured. The shooting happened outside of the Greenwood Apartments in the 100 block of Green Street, officials said. Police described the crime scene as very large. When police arrived, they said they found two men injured. It was later discovered a third victim had sought treatment on his own. One of the victims, a 35-year-old man, died at the hospital, police said. It's unclear at this time if any of the men lived at the complex. Chief Isaac Parker said this appears to be an isolated incident and he asks anyone with information to call the tip line. So far, no one is in custody.
Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that the victim, whose name was not immediately released, was returning home from work when he was gunned down in his driveway.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests have been made and police have not said if they had established a possible motive.
Mob beats man to death after suspected carjacking
No charges have been filed yet in the case of the suspected carjacker, who drove off in a car with three children inside about 9:50 p.m. Thursday while their parents were in the Strawberry Mansion pizza shop where the father works.
The parents gave chase. When the car got stuck in traffic, they pulled the 54-year-old man out of the car, police said. The suspect assaulted the father and fled before being stopped by what police called a “large crowd” and beaten.
Two-vehicle accident in Penn Hills leaves one dead, another injured
Police are investigating after one woman was killed and a man was hurt in a two-vehicle accident early Monday in Penn Hills. Authorities responded just after 5 a.m. to the scene of the accident that occurred at the intersection of Saltsburg Road and Sycamore Drive. A woman, who drove a Nissan Rogue, was pronounced dead at the scene. A male driver of a Hummer H3 was taken to a local hospital with a broken ankle, fire officials said. Captain Tom Kutcher of the Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Department said there were no other individuals in the vehicles during the incident. The cause of the accident is currently unknown. Penn Hills police are investigating.
Taken to Temple University Hospital, the suspect was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.who allegedly stole the car as Eric Hood of North Philadelphia.

A short time earlier, police responded to the 900 block of East Woodlawn Street in East Germantown for a report of stabbing and found a man bleeding on the street.
The 31-year-old man, who had been stabbed in the chest and face, was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later at 10:22 p.m. His name has not been released yet.
Second night of violence
The latest homicides came after five men were killed in four different shootings around the city in a 12-hour period that ended early Thursday.

‘Attacked by some crazy guy’: 80-year-old man beaten on morning walk in Daytona Beach
An arrest has been made after an 80-year-old man says he survived a violent attack at the hands of a man wielding a frozen can of Coke, investigators said. Don Kane was beaten and badly bruised. Daytona Beach police said Thursday morning that Charles Smyth has been arrested in connection with the seemingly unprovoked attack. Kane shared his story with WESH 2 News and said he's lucky to be alive. He said he was attacked from behind by someone who was following him at the corner of Halifax Avenue and Riverview Boulevard. Kane has two black eyes, a sore forehead, big cuts on both of his arms and a bump on the back of his head.
Police said Ramell Dorsey, 24, was shot in the head about 7:05 p.m. Wednesday on the 4500 block of North 17th Street in the Logan section.
Dorsey, who lived a block away on North Smedley Street, was taken to Einstein Medical Center, but died at 1:39 a.m. Thursday.
No arrests have been reported in any of the five slayings that occurred Wednesday and Thursday.

Authorities say a man who stole a car with three young children inside was fatally beaten by their father and other men. Philadelphia police say the car was parked at a pizza restaurant with its engine running when the man drove off around 9:15 p.m. Thursday. The children's mother was inside the restaurant, talking with the father of two of the kids. The vehicle soon got stuck in traffic, and authorities say the couple pulled the 54-year-old man out of the vehicle. The man ran off but was caught by the father.
