Police arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a 3-year-old girl Saturday morning in Milwaukee, officers said.

The shooting happened near 42nd and Townsend streets just before 9 a.m.

The girl was taken to Children's Hospital, but she did not survive.

Family members told WISN 12 News the child's name is Brooklyn Harris.

"She just turned three on the first," Harris' grandmother said. "They didn't give that baby a chance to live. She just turned three."

Woman accidentally shoots husband in the head in road rage incident, police say Erica Cole was arrested for attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment.

Police said the girl's mom, along with other children ages 1, 2 and 4 years old, were in the car when it was shot at.

They were not hurt.

"If our community has gotten to the point where we can get angry over a traffic accident, and we start shooting at kids in a car, and we have a 3-year-old dead. Every one of you should be as angry and upset about this as I am," Milwaukee police Assistant Chief Ray Banks said.

Officers received tips from the public and found a car near 26th and Walnut streets that they believed was involved.

Officers saw a man running from that car and later took him into custody.

That person's identity has not been released.

Police are still investigating the incident.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office will review the case this week.

This happened at about 10:30 p.m. at a home in the 9800 block of Porto Rico Road. Police said when they arrived at the house, they found a man dead on scene. They also learned another man and woman were shot and taken to the hospital. They are expected to survive. All of the victims are over 40 years old, according to police. While on scene, our crew counted at least 17 evidence markers where shell casings landed. Police have very little information on the suspect.

Antonio Bratcher, the man charged for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of 3-year-old Brooklyn Harris, is due in court Thursday, July 25 a preliminary hearing. Bratcher faces the following criminal charges: First degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon First degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon (five counts) Possession of a firearm by a felon Flee or elude an officer According to the criminal complaint, Harris’ mother went to pick up a friend and her child on Saturday, July 13. Harris’ mother was driving a white vehicle. Her friend sat in the passenger seat, and their four children were in the back.
