Authorities: Boy dies after mother drowned his brother Authorities say a 7-year-old boy has lost a fight for his life that began when his mother tried to drown him after she drowned his 12-year-old brother in California. The Tulare County Sheriff's Office says Jacob Telnas died Sunday in a Visalia hospital. An autopsy will determine an exact cause of death. His mother Sherri Telnas had been convicted a decade ago in Montana for trying to drown the 12-year-old when he was an infant. She was sentenced to two consecutive 10-year sentences, eventually placed on probation and released in 2014.

Lori Alhadeff, mother of Alyssa Alhadeff-- one of the 17 victims killed during the Stoneman Douglas massacre -- held a tennis fundraiser in honor of her daughter for a non-profit organization to end gun violence and help fund schools with better sec.

These are the victims of the devastating school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland , Florida, on Feb. Twelve months ago, 14 students and three adults were murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland .

SEATTLE  --  Tuesday marked the first of two nights focused on the prevention of gun violence in King County.  The King County Board of Health is hosting the summit.

Those in attendance say this is about bringing people together to have a conversation; advocates, policymakers and just regular people from the community. The goal is to put a spotlight on regional efforts to prevent gun violence through a public health lens.

Another goal of the summit is to talk about the importance of having better data to make better decisions to identify risk.  We heard from the mother of a 16-year-old girl, named Carmen; shot and killed in the Parkland shooting last year.

Man shoots mother during argument in Greenville County, deputies say A 28-year-old is accused of shooting his mother in Greenville County, according to Lt. Ryan Flood, with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. The woman was found about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the front yard of the family's home on Edgemont Avenue, Flood said. She had at least one gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to deputies. Flood said the shooting happened during an argument. The woman is in critical condition, Flood said. Her son, Michael Lee Sammons, was arrested Thursday morning in Anderson, Flood said. Sammons is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in Greenville County.

Parkland , in north Broward County , is about 30 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. The shooting on the sprawling campus happened despite the presence of police officers at the school. Runcie, the school superintendent, said at least two police cars were typically on campus "on a daily basis."

Her mom says the family moved to the Seattle-area to heal.  She says school shootings are just one aspect of the gun violence issue and her goal is to push for change and common-sense gun laws.

“I really feel like my daughter’s death could have been prevented. There were so many things that should have happened but didn’t. There’s a lot of warning signs for people who are violent, but if they have a firearm, they are more likely to cause harm to someone else or themselves,” says April Schentrup.

Also in attendance tonight, the big brother of television news photojournalist, Adam Ward, shot and killed alongside reporter Alison Parker during a live broadcast in Roanoke, Virginia back in 2015.

“Silence will only allow these tragedies to continue to occur. I choose to speak tod ay for two reasons. This is one way I keep my brother alive. While Adam’s voice has been silenced, he changed many lives in 27 years and I believe he will continue to do so long after his death. And because the stories of victims and survivors of gun violence need to be heard,” says Jay Ward.

People in attendance tonight say this summit is about gun violence prevention, awareness and education. The summit continues tomorrow night at the YMCA Greenbridge Learning Center on 8th Ave. in Seattle – it starts at 6pm.

Man fatally shot outside Orange County convenience store, officials say.
A man is in custody after someone was fatally shot outside a convenience store in Orange County, deputies confirmed. Officials said the shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. at a convenience store near Belco Drive. Authorities closed off the roadway and interviewed those near the scene.
