Shots fired during Newport News party injure cat in nearby apartment NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A cat was shot after shots were fired at a party on July 7. Around 1:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Nelson Drive about destruction of property that happened previously. Officers met with the resident and another person who reported having a party the night before. At some point during the party police believe a party guest, 25-year-old Aren Floryanzia discharged a weapon into the floor. While officers were on scene, they received a call from dispatch who was contacted by the residents in the apartment below where the party took place.

NORFOLK, Va. – The City of Norfolk has 22 new police officers to serve and protect the Mermaid City.

Wednesday night, the Norfolk Police Academy graduated its 104th class as the officers were sworn in at the Harrison Opera House.

Delegate Jay Jones, who represents Virginia’s 86th district, was the graduation speaker. He has the distinction of being the third member of his family to speak at a Norfolk Police Department graduation. His parents are Norfolk Judges Lynn Simmons and Jerrauld Jones.

Many of the new officers have family members who are on the force and are second-generation first responders.

As a result of the investigation, Holley was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to police. Hours later, another double shooting — this time on Wide Street. Police told News 3 the call came in around 11 p.m Tuesday night.

15-year-old boy fighting for his life after shooting, Newport News Police investigating.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Police are investigating after a teenager walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound on Saturday. Around 6 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital in reference to a 15-year-old male who walked into the hospital with a gun shot wound. The victim was then transferred to Riverside Regional Medical Center where his injuries are reported to be life-threatening. The exact location of the shooting is still being investigated.
