Metal beams fall from crane near TD Garden, witnesses say According to witnesses, metal beams fell from a crane at a construction site on Causeway Street near TD Garden Thursday afternoon. Video from Sky5 shows snapped wires that lead up to a crane that towers over a building on Causeway Street. The back of a large flatbed truck parked at the construction site was dented by the fallen beams. A spokesperson for TD Garden told WCVB the beams fell at the construction site for the Hub on Causeway project. One witness told John Atwater, of NewsCenter 5, that the crash from the beams sounded like "a dump truck falling off the Empire State Building." "It was just a loud, loud bang, a very sharp, metallic clang," the witness said.

A driver accused of hitting a flagger in a construction area in Kennebunk on Thursday afternoon is due in court in September, Kennebunk police Chief Bob MacKenzie said.

Shannon Carey, 40, of Kennebunk, is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, MacKenzie said.

Carey hit the flagger just before 3 p.m. on Summer Street, the chief said.

The flagger had attempted to stop the driver, but Carey refused to stop and hit the flagger, he said.

Witnesses said several flaggers were surrounding a vehicle, before it sped up, carrying one of the flaggers several yards.

Cocaine valued at $16,000 seized in Sanford bust, drug agents say The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said agents seized $16,000 worth of cocaine in a bust in Sanford on Thursday. Guydalbert Elie, 40, Huberson Sylne, 40, and JeanSamuel Merlain, 40, all of Massachusetts, were arrested on aggravated drug trafficking charges. MDEA officials said agents worked with Sanford police to investigate the trafficking of cocaine in the area. Investigators said the drugs were being brought from Massachusetts to Maine. Officials said police stopped a car on Main Street at about 10 p.m. A search of the car found 148 grams of cocaine, 13.5 grams of crack cocaine, $3,500 in suspected drug proceeds and other evidence of drug trafficking.

The flagger was not seriously injured.

Police found Carey a short time later and arrested him.

Man charged with murder, DUI after hitting two men riding in golf cart.
A man sustained fatal injuries following an accident near the Seneca Golf Course. Officials responded to a report of an injury accident in the 2300 block of Pee Wee Reese Road. The call came just before 4 p.m. Sunday. Officials say Lazaro Pozzo Illas was heading Northbound when he sped threw a cross walk and struck two men riding in a golf cart. Both men were ejected from the golf cart following the collision. They were taken to University Hospital for treatment, where one was later pronounced dead. The other victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Illas was arrested and charged with DUI, murder and driving without a license.
