Adoptive mother pleads guilty to killing Erica Parsons

Adoptive mother pleads guilty to killing Erica Parsons The adoptive mother of Erica Parsons pleaded guilty Friday to repeatedly abusing and eventually killing the Rowan County teen, according to NBC affiliate WRAL. The television station reported that Casey Parsons, 44, will spend the rest of her life in prison for first-degree murder and felony child abuse. Erica Parsons was reported missing on July 30, 2013. Her brother said she hadn't been seen since November 2011, but Casey Parsons and her husband, Sandy Parsons, maintained she was living with a relative in Asheville, according to WRAL.

IONIA, Mich. — A man has pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the fatal 2017 stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Ionia.

Kyler Bogert, 19, entered the plea Wednesday in the death of Daniel Johnson, who he was accused of stabbing in the neck during a fight. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal sexual conduct from an unrelated May 2017 incident.

He was originally charged with second-degree murder, but prosecutors dropped that charge after receiving a report that provided more information on Bogert’s state of mind and mental illness diagnosis. Prosecutors said the manslaughter charge was more appropriate.

Freedom sought for US teen jailed in Rome police slaying

Freedom sought for US teen jailed in Rome police slaying A lawyer for one of two American teens jailed in the investigation of an Italian police officer's slaying has petitioned for his client's release. Francesco Petrelli said Friday he didn't know when a tribunal would hear the appeal, filed a day earlier, on behalf of Gabriel Christian Natale-Hjorth, 18. Natale-Hjorth and fellow Californian Finnegan Lee Elder, 19, are being held in a Rome jail while prosecutors probe the slaying of an unarmed officer, Mario Cerciello Rega, who was knifed 11 times on July 26. Prosecutors contend Elder stabbed the officer during a scuffle while Natale-Hjorth allegedly punched and kicked the officer's partner.

Bogert won’t be sentenced for another six to eight weeks, but prosecutors said he will likely receive a sentence equal or less than the 26 months he has already served, meaning he will be on probation.
