The blue charger that was carjacked from Sherri Reynolds at the Outer Loop Walmart has been located. A retired police officer tried to help Sherri but in the process, police say the suspect hit the officer with the car then ran him over. Police have very few details at this time about any suspects. MELVINDALE (WWJ) - Police have captured a suspect who allegedly carjacked an off-duty officer at a gas station in southwest Detroit.
The off-duty Harper Woods Police officer was leaving a gas station on Fort and Clark streets around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday when he was approached by a man with a gun.
The suspect then took off in the officer's Dodge Ram, which was loaded with police equipment including his gun, badge and body armor.
A chase ensued that stretched into Melvindale, where the suspect ditched the Ram in a neighborhood and took off on foot, hopping over fences and cutting through yards. He was eventually caught and taken into custody.
No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
