"I'm grateful, but, I repeat, no one wins. We are all suffering -- (Cooper's) mother is suffering, I'm suffering. But, we got victory today. I just hope this brings closure to my family and we can move forward," Donyelle Brown said.

Donyelle Brown hugged Cooper's mother following the sentencing.

"At the end of the day, (Cooper's mother) doesn’t have her son due to senseless violence and I don't have my son due to senseless violence. She is hurting and I am hurting. We got to win this battle together, and that’s why I hugged her."

Surveillance video showed two men getting out of a silver Volkswagen, both firing shots.

Young was very interested in football, but his stepfather, defense attorney Warren Brown, said in July 2017 that Young had been pursuing a career in the insurance business.

Man accused of terrorizing south St. Louis family over vehicle dispute ST. LOUIS – A man is accused of terrorizing a south St. Louis family, trashing their car, and trying to break into their home. Charles Edward Thompson, 42, was jailed on felony attempted burglary, harassment, and misdemeanor property damage charges. Police believe he left a blood trail on the door of the family living next to his girlfriend in the Clinton-Peabody complex. Prosecutors said Thompson tried to kick their door in around 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 28 and threatened to kill the neighbors while trying to reach through the mail slot to unlock the door. Thompson’s girlfriend, Larshell Starks, told Fox 2/News 11 that just wasn’t true.

"He was just lovable, like a big teddy bear," Warren Brown said. "I've tried as much as I can not to seek vengeance and to seek justice. Quite frankly, either one will do just so these guys are no longer engaged in their predatory and deadly behavior on the streets of Baltimore."

Four children under the age of 5 have been transported to hospitals after a fire at a home south of downtown St. Louis. The St. Louis Fire Department responded to the 1300 block of Ohio Avenue around 12:50 p.m. Thursday after someone walking by saw flames coming from a two-family duplex. St. Louis Fire Department spokesperson Captain Mosby said the children were hiding during the fire and found in a playroom. The children were left home alone. Three of the children transported to hospitals are in critical condition, Mosby said. Mosby said the mom of the children came to the scene after firefighters arrived. It’s unclear what caused the fire.
