Texas WR Joshua Moore facing weapons charge following July arrest

Texas WR Joshua Moore facing weapons charge following July arrest Texas Longhorns sophomore receiver Joshua Moore is facing a misdemeanor weapons charge stemming from a July 5 arrest in downtown Austin. According to KXAN in Austin, Texas, Moore was arrested for carrying a loaded gun without a license. Police viewing surveillance cameras saw a suspect “remove a firearm from his waistband, walk in between two vehicles, appearing to chamber a round by pulling the slide of the gun to the rear, and then place the firearm back into his waistband,” per the arrest affidavit. After being apprehended by police, who then searched Moore, it was discovered that was carrying “a Glock 19 – 9mm pistol in his waistband.

Bonanno immediately invoked his right to counsel, the district attorney said.

Police found a loaded Glock semi-automatic handgun in his friend's car, Costanzo said, but that was just a rain drop compared to the arsenal of weapons law enforcement found in his car and two known addresses.

Officers searched his BMW SUV, which the chief said was parked in his estranged wife's driveway, and found:

  • five fully loaded assault rifles with high-capacity magazines
  • three handguns
  • 29 high-capacity loaded magazines
  • over 1,600 rounds of ammunition
  • a stun gun
  • heavy ballistic body armor and ballistic helmet
  • handcuffs
  • full head cover face masks
  • multiple military style knives
  • four brass knuckles
  • pepper spray
  • scopes, binoculars and other paraphernalia

Police found three more unlicensed handguns in his Mount Pleasant home as well as assault rifles, a shotgun, handguns, high capacity magazines, body armor, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, smoke grenades and other weapons in his Great Neck home.

Mayor Greg Luisi praised the quick work of the Tuckahoe Police Department and District Attorney's Office.

"We all heard that cliche, 'If you see something, say something.' Well, we cannot understate what that individual did when he contacted the Tuckahoe Police Department," Luisi said. "Without this individual coming forward, this amount of weaponry would've been out on the streets and who knows what would've happened."

Bonanno, 47, is a plastic surgeon who works on Long Island. He was arraigned in village court on Tuesday on two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

The chief said the suspect and his estranged wife had a "cordial" relationship before this incident. Although there were no previous violent incidents involving Bonanno and his estranged wife, there was an order of protection against him that expired several years ago, he said.

The investigation into how Bonanno acquired so many weapons, most of which are illegal in New York state, and how and why he brought them into Westchester is ongoing, Scarpino said.

Law enforcement and the district attorney's office in Westchester and Nassau counties are going through his electronic devices to see if there were any other threats made, but Scarpino said there are no other threats that they knew of at this time.
