FULLERTON (CBSLA) — Police are searching for a man who stabbed a Cal State Fullerton administrator to death in the campus parking lot Monday morning.

At around 8:30 a.m., the victim, a man in his late-50s, was found with numerous stab wounds in a four-door Infiniti sedan in the parking lot south of College Park, Fullerton police Lt. Jon Radus told reporters at a news briefing.

Police initially reported that the victim was a faculty member, but then the school issued a correction to confirm he was an administrator.

Brandon Davis, a Cal State Fullerton student and parking services officer at the university , said the parking structure is always patrolled by at least student security officers. "We try to monitor the area and make sure it's always safe," Davis said. "So, to hear something like this, it is a little discouraging

He was a retired annuitant who had returned to the school to work in “international student registration,” Radus disclosed.

The suspect was described as an Asian man in his mid-20s. He was last seen running north on Langsdorf Drive and east on Nutwood Avenue. Investigators could not confirm a motive or whether they believe the suspect is a student, Radus said. They are looking into whether the victim was targeted.

“We do not believe there is an active stabber on the loose at this particular time,” Radus said.

Monday marked the first day of the fall semester at Cal State Fullerton. Coincidentally, the university had planned a drill at the Pollak Library in the center of the campus. The university says the incident in College Park is not connected to the drill.

The campus was not locked down during the incident.
