  Man taken into custody for fatal stabbing at Daytona Beach gas station A suspect in a fatal stabbing at a gas station is in custody after a search early Saturday morning. Around 4:37 a.m., Daytona Beach police were called to a Citgo gas station, 600 W. International Speedway Blvd., for a stabbing. Thebese Rankin, 27, was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Initially, police circulated a surveillance photo of a person of interest in hopes the public could help identity him. Joe McCants, 50, was eventually taken into custody and identified as the suspect. Investigators have not released the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

The 26-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a felony, Dobbs Ferry police said in a statement today.

The arrest stems from Sept. 20, when Dobbs Ferry resident Rocco DePaolo was struck and killed by a driver.

DePaolo, 91, was crossing Route 9, also known as Broadway, at the Maple Street intersection around 9:25 p.m. that Friday when he was hit by a driver, police said.

Police would not answer any questions about the arrest or investigation, including how he was identified and whether he might face any additional charges.
