Jurors are expected to begin hearing testimony Tuesday in the murder trial of Ricky Cantu. He was 57 when he was arrested and charged with murder in the death of Rudy Borrego, 51.

According to a police report, Borrego was traveling in the westbound lane around 7 p.m. Feb. 24, 2018, in the 2100 block of South Laredo Street when Cantu’s vehicle attempted to make a left-hand turn from the eastbound lane into a parking lot when they collided.

Borrego, who was driving a motorcycle, was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Cantu was determined to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to the report.

The trial is being heard in the 175th state District Court, Judge Catherine Torres-Stahl presiding.

If convicted, Cantu, now 58, faces up to life in prison.

A judge Wednesday set a January trial date for a San Antonio man accused of raping five women in the Medical Center area. Anton Harris is accused of raping five women, either at gun- or knifepoint, in and around the Medical Center area on the Northwest Side. San Antonio police have accused Harris of a crime spree that began in 2015 when he was 16 and ended in 2017 with his arrest, two days after he graduated from high school.
